Yoga is often so much more than a workout; it’s a lifestyle. Whether you’re looking for an intense workout or a gentle rehabilitative stretch, there are so many ways that it can benefit your body and your mind. This is especially true for pregnant mamas whose bodies are constantly growing and stretching and whose minds are balancing day-to-day life with preparing for an upcoming arrival. Designed just for moms-to-be, Orange County prenatal yoga lets you leave the craziness of life on your mat as you gently and intentionally tend to your body and mind.
There are plenty of benefits to prenatal yoga. It’s a multifaceted approach to exercise that incorporates stretching, focused breathing, and mental centering. All of which are great throughout pregnancy and as you prepare to give birth. Studies have shown that prenatal yoga can improve sleep, reduce stress and anxiety, increase the strength and flexibility of muscles. Especially those needed for labor and delivery. Above all, this leads to a decrease in standard pregnancy discomforts. Such as back pain, headaches, and shortness of breath.
While some kinds of yoga can be more strenuous and physically challenging, prenatal yoga typically takes on a slower pace. Easing participants into gentle stretches and poses that are safe for both mama and baby. Prenatal yoga classes should never be “hot” classes in heated rooms. They also typically say prenatal in the class title or description. So you know it’s appropriate for pregnancy.
Additionally, prenatal yoga classes are a great way to meet other expectant moms in your community. There is a definite camaraderie that comes from experiencing pregnancy, and in a yoga class, there is plenty of space to bring your unique experiences to the room and learn from others.
If you’re feeling inspired to hit your mat, then check out these studios that offer Orange County prenatal yoga. At least give it a try. A lot of yoga studios offer trial periods or free classes to get your feet wet, so don’t feel like you have to commit to yoga long-term right away.
